History and Current Status In 1994, Mrs. Elliott began what she felt was an effort to provide her children with a superior educational program which included not only academic subjects, but information which would nurture their physical, emotional, and spiritual growth. This beginning home school effort became the solution for other parents who were disappointed with the present public school experience. Mrs. Elliott, with the assistance of certified classroom personnel, uses the one room school- house model ensuring each child receives individualized developmentally appropriate instruction. This blended environment of grades allows students to progress naturally on any level of learning without stress or inappropriate peer pressures. There is no system of failure, but an emphasis on mastery for success and development of self-discipline which will enable any child to succeed in life.
The TreeHouse Setting The TreeHouse School is located in a natural rural setting in Burkeville, VA. The facility is completely surrounded by a pristine forest which is seen from all sides of the 2,000 square foot classroom. The classroom is enclosed by windows on all four sides which give students a panoramic view of rolling hills, trees and a three acre pond. Mrs. Elliott uses the forest trails and ponds to teach physical education, science, math, arts, language development, and the fundamental belief in a Higher Power. With access to over 50 acres of unspoiled nature, students use the outdoors as a natural extention of the classroom experience.
